This course will ready the practitioner to work with clients, or groups of clients, suffering from anxiety, panic and post traumatic stress disorders using Yoga Therapy techniques, and complementary alternative modalities.
The training includes lectures, discussions and experiential lessons in the following areas: ancient yoga techniques (asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dhyana, yoga nidra, svadyaya, aparigraha, ), Integrative Yoga Therapy (Koshic model), Ayurveda, behavioural therapy, spirituality, western perspectives (musculoskeletal, biochemical systems, neurophysiology), acupressure, acupuncture, sound therapy, aromatherapy and nutrition. These are all important factors that address the complex issues that present with anxiety disorders.
A total wellness program must address the whole person, mind, body and spirit.
Genevieve Yellin, ERYT500, PYT1000, Integrative Yoga Therapist, is the primary teacher. She will teach/certify participants in leading Trauma Sensitive Yoga Classes as well as ready participants to facilitate the Evidence Informed Yoga Therapy clinic: "Overcoming Anxiety: A Natural & Holistic Approach"
Dr. Henry Rosemont, Jr. PhD will talk about the necessity of addressing the spirit; from the Yoga Therapy perspective all dis-ease can be traced to a separation from spirit. How do we cultivate spirit in ourselves and in our clients?
Dr. Jessica Byron, MD, RYT, PYT500 offers the conventional medical perspective of the debilitating effects of stress and chronic anxiety on the human body; the physiological systems effected most commonly and the resultant diseases.
Shannon Prescher, LMSW will discuss Anxiety, Panic and Post Traumatic Stress Disorders from a Mental Health point of view, clearly define the scope of practice for Yoga Therapists, and discuss strategies to keep the client and yoga therapist emotionally safe.
Kerry Meath-Sinkin, MPH, C.Ayur., RYT will offer participants a firm foundation of Ayurvedic principles and will go further in depth with Anxiety from an Ayurveda perspective. She will discuss anxiety and hormonal imbalance; with a focus on PMS, fertility, post-partum, peri/post-menopause.
Guest speakers will discuss language and cultural considerations for more specific populations.

Yoga Therapy is is an integrated approach to health and wellness. Integrative Yoga Therapy brings the ancients insights of yoga into modern wellness programs. It utilizes modern scientific and medical understanding, as well as embarks on an exploration of the ancient practices of self healing through realization of our true nature and understanding our constitution through Ayurveda. Total wellness is achieved by living a harmonious existence, mind, body and spirit.
More often than not, yoga trainings avoid the topic of spirituality. Our distinguished guest lecturer, Dr. Henry Rosemont, Jr helps us develop an understanding of the importance and relevance of spirituality and offers guidance into how to implement spirituality into the therapeutic model.
Our program strongly suggests that our clients participate in private or group talk therapy with a licensed counselor in concert with the techniques we teach. Our licensed therapist faculty members, will address some of the more complex psychological aspects (e.g.core beliefs) as well as teach participants methods to keep themselves emotionally safe when working with this population.
